Guilbault leads panel discussion titled ‘Building Communities of Action through Technology’ at Good Tech Summit 2017 in Washington, D.C
June 14, 2017—ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—As the conversation about how to harness tech forces for good gains momentum, Community Brands President JP Guilbault joins other tech, media, advocacy and government leaders at Good Tech Summit 2017 in Washington, D.C. Guilbault will moderate a panel discussion titled “Building Communities of Action through Technology” on Thursday, June 15, 2017. The session, which takes center stage at Carnegie Library and starts at 10AM ET, begins with a TED Talk delivered by Guilbault, who will underscore the need for the application of technology and human-centric innovation by organizations looking to build communities, advance legislation and engage members to help successfully carry out their missions.
“Many of us working to change society are just now starting to understand how to harness technology and its power for social good,” Guilbault said. “Our growing awareness that nearly 2.1 billion people live on less than $2 a day, nearly half of all deaths are preventable, or 30% of today’s jobs could be replaced through automation by 2025, comes at a time when the stakes are high and greater efforts are needed to address a slew of good causes and other intractable social issues. Right now, even the most successful tech strategies and tactics are only addressing a fraction of the problems. The Good Tech Summit is an opportunity to hear from many leading voices who can help organizations with mission-critical causes leverage technology to drive and deliver powerful advocacy campaigns.”
The hour-long session will cover the tools, tactics and strategies which have worked for organizations and how advocacy has changed over time. Real-world examples will be shared with attendees about what it takes to run a successful advocacy campaign which brings positive results in the digital age. Session panelists include Amy Shope Manzi, National Director of Grassroots Advocacy, American Heart Association; Jeff Joseph, VP of Strategic Communications, Consumer Technology Association; and Darrell Allison, CEO, Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina.
“We’re bringing together the best of the best to discuss how forward-thinking organizations are using tech to build communities, move legislation and keep members engaged,” said Jeb Ory, CEO of Phone2Action. “We are thrilled to have JP as a speaker at our event, and we are confident attendees will benefit from his perspective on how to run a successful advocacy campaign in the digital age.”
The Good Tech Summit is a day of interactive demos and informative talks to discuss the future of industries, how technology is making public policy mainstream, and how people are embracing technology for human advancement. The goal of the event is to present attendees with what experts are doing today and how grassroots engagement will be effective for them in the future.
Other scheduled speakers include Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple; Elianna Murillo, head of multicultural marketing at Google; Ken Lowe, founder of Vizio; Michelle Klein, Marketing Director, Facebook-North America; Betsy Hoover, founding partner at 270 Strategies; Joaquin Castro, U.S. Representative, D-Texas; and Martin O’Malley, former Presidential Candidate and Governor of Maryland.
